Upgrading your system’s continual improvement process

In improving their management systems, Lean (by Ford and Toyota) and Six Sigma (by Motorola and Allied Signal) began as separate philosophies each with their own methodology.

Lean focused on improving the efficiency of an organization through the reduction of waste. If a company can reduce their wasted activities, they can spend more time on value-added activities and make more efficient use of resources or become more profitable.

Six Sigma focused on reducing defects (nonconformities) by minimizing variation. If a process is more consistent and has less variation, then fewer defects (nonconformities) will be created and an organization can become less wasteful and more profitable.

As a result of Lean and the reduction of waste, processes became more consistent which also reduced variation and the resulting defects. One methodology became the by-product of the other. Therefore, we have merged the philosophies. Although they have very different tool sets, they complement each other. Using these blended methodologies enables our clients to improve their natural management systems.

Design for Lean Six Sigma

Design for Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) extends the principles of Lean Six Sigma to the creation of new products and processes. It provides a proactive method to build customer requirements into product and process development. DFLSS utilizes DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) methodology. The principles of Lean Six Sigma are interwoven throughout the design process with the intent of preventing defects in the development phase rather than correcting defects after a project has been implemented.

Lean Six Sigma Project Coaching and Support

We provide onsite support of Lean Six Sigma projects. This enables our experienced Master Black Belt to coach a new Black Belt or Green Belt through their first project. It builds confidence and reinforces the training. If the first project is done well, many successful projects usually follow.

Lean Six Sigma Training

QMII provides Basics, Green Belt, Black Belt and custom training options. Choose the training option that best suits your needs and budget.
