Information security has come to the forefront recently because of risks
stemming from ever-improving technology and growing concerns of global threats.
Managing information security and how an organization protects valuable information
assets, including those owned by customers and suppliers, is only accomplished through
well-designed and implemented management systems. Information is both nebulous and
critical – the challenge facing any organization is:
- How do we discern valuable information from the minutia?
- How can we be assured our business process controls are in place and effective?
The answer is the information security management system or ISMS. The ISMS is the
collection of objectives, policy, organizational structure, processes and data used
to safeguard information. For many organizations today, information is its most
valuable but least tangible asset.
The international community has agreed a management system standard for safeguard
information: ISO 27001. As a system standard, ISO 27001 provides basic, agreed
requirements for good management practices, in particular the process controls
common to all information security management systems. However, these minimal
requirements only establish a framework for exceptional organizational performance,
they do not guarantee it.
Learn how process-based information security management systems are key to an
effective ISMS. At QMII, we pride ourselves in our >20 year history of helping
clients develop process-based management systems, long before conformity and
compliance through continual process improvement became popular.
