DESIGNATED PERSON (DP)

DESIGNATED PERSON DP

WITH SUCH HEAVY RESPONSIBILITY RESTING ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE DP, IT IS CRITICAL THAT
THEY UNDERSTAND THE ROLE AND DUTIES OF THIS POSITION.

The Designated Person (DP), as required by the ISM Code and Subchapter M, plays a key role in the Safety Management System (SMS) and TSMS. The DP ensures the implementation and maintenance of the SMS and is responsible for its effectiveness. The ISM Code requires the Designated Person to receive training to undertake their duties as per guidance in MSC-MEPC.7/ Circ.6.

This course prepares participants to assume the role and responsibilities of the designated person by providing participants with an
in-depth understanding of the ISM code, crisis management as well as an introduction to Accident Investigation.

Because of our independence, you may bring your particular compliance, process and system concerns to class and the instructor will work to answer your questions as best as possible.

There are two options for this training.  If you have recently taken an ISM Auditor training or are planning to take our ISM Auditor course, then you may choose the one-day Add-On DPA class.  If you do not plan to take the ISM Auditor training and do not have a certificate of successful completion from a recent ISM training, then you would choose the two-day DPA class.
